My Big Adventure for the Summer!

My adventure starts the day after tomorrow! I am traveling to the beautiful woodsy Punxsatawney, Pensylvania! Oh, how I love it there. Its gorgeously green, and filled with trees, creeks, and (my absolute favorite thing) blueberry bushes! Lucky for me, I have family there to stay with! My aunt lives in such a charming house in the woods. I just have such wonderful memories of her big windows (letting in either sun, or allowing a joyous pit-pat-pattering of rain), and I remember her enchanting rows of tall tall blueberry bushes! Everywhere! So I cannot wait to get there, and I will take millions of photos, of course! But first I must deal with the long plane ride from California to Pensylvania. Plane rides can either be adventures, or treacherous things! Lets hope its a fun adventure!

Now, my biggest worry about going on this trip, is how much I will miss my animals! Especially my kitties! Here's two of em! Cuddlin on the chair ;)

I've said many times before how much I love them, and how great all their albums are, but really and truly listen to their self-titled album. That album and "The Needles The Space" are definitely my faves =) Listening to the self-titled right now. . .

An Antique Morning!

Hello!
Today I spent the morning doing one of my favorite things: browsing antique shops. . .hoping for something to stick out to me!

Two things did =)

First was this lovely original photo from the 1906 book "The Christy Girl", by Howard Chandler Christy. I fell in love with it immediately. When I brought it home I noticed that it had a back side! What a nice surprise!

I also bought this Twilight Zone pin to add to my collection of pins! Cool, right?

I don't know about you, but I think it looks quite nice on my pin-filled bag!

Now I just need to get a frame for my new Christy print. . .Speaking of frames, yesterday I got a couple for my lovely things I got at the Sawdust festival! I think they look great on my wall ;)

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland!

As many of you know, Tim Burton is doing an Alice in Wonderland film starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter! So, it's from the point of view of the Mad Hatter, and I'm sure its going to be very dark, a bit humerous, and amazing!

I am unbelievably excited for this movie. Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite books (stories in general) ever, Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors/producers, and I love Johnny Depp as well! He is a total genius. Oddly enough, I am fine with the fact that obviously this film is not going to be like the book.

Not to mention the incredible art that Disney has come out with for this film. WOW. Just looking at the photos is like stepping into another world. Imagine how the movie will be!!

A Ranch Wedding!

Yesterday I went to the most beautiful wedding at a place called Star Ranch! Of course that was extemely enjoyable for me (being a horse lover). The bride even rode in on horseback!

The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and the sunset was breathtaking!

In the reception area, it was all set up as the Wild West, and it was quite funny! There was even an old "hotel" where I took some interesting photos.

They also had this cool old truck, and I quite like the photo I took!

And a sweet old donkey!

It was a very charming wedding! I always like when people step out of the box, and have a wedding with horses instead of hotel managers!

I don't know about you, but I love cats. Especially mine! I have three wonderful kitties, Mickey, Toby, and Ellie (who I just called Kitten most of the time).

Now Kitten always seems to be around. Which is why I have a heap of pictures of her, all of the time!

Oh Geez

Oh where have I been lately? It seems I have completely set this blog to rest. . .But I would very much like to pick it up again! My last post was about my desire for summer, and now summer is halfway gone!

Lately I have been trying very hard to get my ideas onto paper. Whether it be the lined paper of a notebook, or the wonderful texture of a canvas.

My inspiration was even furthered by the fact that yesterday I spent the day in Laguna Beach with my mother at the amazing Sawdust Festival, and Festival of the Arts! Take a gander: http://www.sawdustartfestival.org/ and http://www.foapom.com/.

It was such a wonderful day. We first visited the Sawdust Festival which is so great because it is all local Laguna Beach artists and they set up little areas where they sell their very diverse art! I met some pretty amazing artists, talked to many about their techniques, and bought some beautiful things. Before I show you my beautiful things I bought, I must tell you my technique to buying art. When you are not looking to buy something to blow your budget, but you are in love with in image, look to see if the artist is selling it in either greeting card or postcard form! Then instead of spending a lot on a print, you are spending 3-7 dollars on the same great image, just smaller! And if you mount it and frame it, then voila! Beautiful art!

Now, I found two artists that I really adored.

The first is a wonderful collage artist, Suzette Rosenthal. You can view her work here: http://suzetterosenthal.com/. I talked a lot to her about her technique of collage, and I was really inspired! I bought (big shocker) a greeting card of one of my favorite works of hers! Here it is:

I then found an artist whose work inspired me at such a level that immediately when I came home I began writing a story based off of one of her works. The one I bought, of course. Her name is Sue Winner, and unfortunately she does not have a website. But if you live in the Laguna Beach area then I highly suggest you get over there and check her out! Her work was amazing, whimsical and old fairy-tale-esque. The majority of her paintings contain strange gremlin "fallen angel" demon type things. But it is interesting because none of them look scary. They all remind me of the old fairy tales about selling your soul to the devil, and then outsmarting him and getting it back!

The one I bought from her is called The Lost Fairy and here it is:

After my mother and I had our share of fun at the Sawdust Festival, we walked over to the Festival of the Arts. At this festival, it is much quieter, relaxing, and it features more distinguished art. A little less crafty, and still beautiful! We bought some lunch and ate under a tree on a charming little table in the middle of the area, where we just had beautiful art to look at!

Once we ate, we looked through the art, and found a printmaking table where we got to try it out and take home our own art! I came up with this little thing:

Waiting and Wishing for Summer

Summer, summer, summer! It is almost here! In less than 3 weeks I will start my beautious summer vacation, and I cannot be more excited! I am anxiously awaiting the wonderful summer days, and the even better, cool, summer nights!

For now, I am trying to find every bit of summer that I can grasp. . .For example, I took a few photos of the summery flowers on the hill behind my house. Take a gander =)

Oh, I really just cannot wait until the wonderfulness starts! I am already making a list of summer books I must read. I will hopefully relax under a tree with these books on the summer days, but with the Southern California heat, it is hard to say!

I hope you all can manage to get through the last weeks. . .I know I will have some amount of difficulty!!

Oh, it has been quite some time since I have last blogged. My last post was about two very sick, and very beloved horses. Sadly, I must tell you that my most adored horse Casper, has died. I am still not able to talk about it much, so I'll leave it at that.

On a lighter note, this past Saturday I went to Los Angeles to see the most amazing Yann Tiersen! He is best recognized for doing the music for the whimsical French film Amelie.

The concert was amazing. I was bummed because he never picked up an accordian, or played the piano, but he did, however, play some amazing new music on his guitar. I especially adored he and his violin. He played the most wonderful violin solo "Sur Le Fil". Here is a video of him playing it the night I saw him!

Two Sick Horsies :(

Yesterday, my friend Kyla and I went to visit my favorite horse Casper, and her favorite horse, Apollo. Both of our boys are very sick and we just want to spend as much time with them as possible...You never know how soon they may disappear forever :(

But we had a lovely time. We groomed them up, fed them billions of treats, and took many pictures!

A Lovely Friday, A Lovely Ride

I just got home from the stable where I just had the loveliest ride! I am now in such a good mood! The weather was just lovely. With the time change, it was still light even though it was a 6 'o clock ride. The sun was setting and the temperature was a perfect 70 degrees.
It was a hard lesson of course; very exhausting, great exercise, and I literally used muscles in my body that I never knew existed! Literally!

And now I am so happy to remember that is Friday. I'm not sure what I will do this weekend, but I'm sure it will be lovely and relaxing.

Sick, sick, sick!

I am just so physically sick and mentally tired. Life is a difficult thing! Especially when you live day-by-day just trying to do something that makes you happy. When life is absolutely filled with school, homework, icky hot weather, and things such as that, it is just hard to wake up in the morning. Especially when I live in such the opposite of places that I wish I could live. The bland, development-filled suburb of Los Angeles is not what I call my cup of tea.

Sometimes I wonder if it is bad that I spend my time dreaming and wishing I were in a different world. Or atleast a different place in this world...

I'm sorry if I am sounding like a negative Nancy!

Finally, after wrestling endlessly with my computer, I have gotten a new one! So you can (hopefully) expect to hear from me more often :)

It is Thursday night and I am anxiously awaiting the weekend. This past weekend was a lovely 3 days, and I wish I could relive the peaceful time. It was beautifully rainy and cloudy and I enjoyed it so much! I spent my time writing, reading, taking photos of the sky, watching independent films, and playing my guitar. It was lovely! I hope to do something similar this weekend.

I was also able to order some used books from Amazon.com, which made me very happy :) I ordered these 4 books:

I must admit that I do enjoy reading children's books :) They often have the best and most whimsical stories! And that is what I love.

I could not be more pleased for a weekend than I am right now. I have had a very trying week, but it is time for me to move passed that. I plan to engulf myself in a Fleet Foxes cd while watching the rain. I adore the rain...

Wow, is anyone else shocked that today is the first day of June? That means a few things to me. Summer! And finals. Awful. This week will be my last week of school, and I can't help but feel that my teachers have slightly sadistic feelings for their students. Of course I am talking about my homework load.

Anyway, I don't want to talk about school. I mean really, would you? I didn't think so.

I'd rather talk about the beautiful day that is today. It's a good 76 degrees, and I would give anything to go out for a walk. Unfortunately, I am stuck in my home, writing an eight page book report on "The Napoleon of Notting Hill" by G.K. Chesterton. Oh joy.

Well, I best be off. Six more pages to go.

Heat&Stress&Music&Books&Disturbing Movies

Hello all :)
It has certainly been very hot lately. Today was 104 degrees, I believe. Quite awful! I prefer beautiful, rainy days, myself. Maybe some day I will move to Seattle, Washington. Sounds lovely.

Life for me has lately revolved around schoolwork. It's really been giving me a bad mood all the time. I try to read and listen to music to help out with my stress. I've been listening to the song "Buttoned Down" by Straylight Run nonstop! It's quite a wonderful song. You should certainly give it a listen.

I've been reading the book "Eclipse" by Stephenie Meyer. It's the third book in the "Twilight" series. I'm really enjoying it.

Has anyone heard of the movie, "Funny Games"? I'm partly interested in watching it, but I'm also partly thinking that it will be intolerably sick, just twisted. So, if anyone has seen it, I welcome opinions!

Get A Life Tour

Last night I was at an amazing concert! It was Straylight Run, Lights Resolve, The Used, Street Drum Corps, and Army of Me.

It was such a great show. I had pit tickets which made it even more fun, and the best part is....... drumroll please..........my friend won BACKSTAGE PASSES! And took me of course. It was really great I met all the guys from Lights Resolve (Neal, Matt, Shermin); the singer from Straylight Run (John), and the drummer from Straylight Run (Will); and the singer of Army of Me (Vince). They were all really awesome and laid back.

So basically, it was a fantastic concert to add to my list of fantastic concerts that I've attended.
The only bad part was that my friend got hurt in the mosh pit, and so we took him to the hospital right after the show to get stitches! It was a really deep cut right above his eye. But he said it was worth it!

Oh, and if any of you ever have the chance to see Street Drum Corps live, DO IT! They're AMAZING!

Today I Learned the Importance of...

...a mental health day.
Well, afternoon.

I start having a serious mental breakdown at school! I just couldn't take it anymore. So I called my mom and we decided that we would take the rest of the day off, and have a mental health afternoon. She picked me up from school, and we went to a little French crepery and ate lunch. We shared a sandwich on a baguette, and a delicious crepe with nutella, strawberries, and bananas. Mmmm.
Then we walked around the little downtown area and I tried on whimsical dresses in a charming store, (of course, not buying any! :D ), and we smelled some lovely perfumes in Bath and Body Works. ;)
It was a lovely afternoon.

Too bad I have to go to school tomorrow...

Anyways, now I think that I will take my book "Farewell Summer", by Ray Bradbury, and go sit outside and read. With one of my kitties, of course.

Back from the Dead

Well I have not left a new post on here for a very long while. But I am back from the dead now and I don't have anything very interesting to share...

My bunny rabbit, Aiden, escaped from his cage yesterday. He was running around my back yard, but then he was GONE! I was so sad that he was lost forever. Much later that day, I was sitting in my garden with my gray kitten, Ellie-phant, and there was Aiden! I think he had a very fun day in the garden! It reminded me of my story, "Anticipating a White Rabbit". Except Aiden is brown! :)

Speaking of "Anticipating a White Rabbit", the sequel will be coming very soon!

My Newest Story...

I love writing fanciful children's stories, and here is my newest! I call it "Anticipating a White Rabbit"

Little Avery paced back and forth in front of her window with orange flowery curtains.
'Oh', she thought to herself, 'I do so hope that Mr. Bunny will come see me again today!’
At that moment, a charming white rabbit hopped towards the window. He started munching some sweet, chewy grass.
“Why hello, Mr. Bunny!” Little Avery said as she opened the window with orange flowery curtains. “How are you this morning?”
The little rabbit looked up with his big brown eyes at the sound of her voice, but of course, he said nothing. “Oh Mr. Bunny, you are so charming.”
He stared at her for one more moment with his kind eyes, then started on the grass again.
Little Avery, however, was not disappointed at all. She just smiled and went into the kitchen to grab a white cupcake with pink icing. She also took a carrot.
When Little Avery returned to the window, the charming white rabbit with big brown eyes was gone.
'Oh no', she thought to herself, 'I guess I will just take these treats outside and wait for Mr. Bunny there.' And so she did. Little Avery had been sitting on the grass, eating her white cupcake with pink icing for about 6 minutes. The carrot still sat beside her.

She heard a sound coming from the blueberry bushes, and when she turned around, the charming white rabbit appeared.
“Oh, Mr. Bunny! Back so soon?” The charming rabbit only looked up at her with big, kind, brown eyes.
“Please come here, Mr. Bunny.” Little Avery said. “I have something for you.”
The white rabbit took two hops over. He stared at the carrot, then he stared at the girl. He looked at her, and his little rabbit mouth opened and he said “Is that carrot for me?” “Oh yes!” Said Little Avery, not at all surprised. And the charming white rabbit took a big, smiling bite.

Today was such a warm, nice day! I usually prefer rain, but today was actually very nice at about 82 degrees. It made me think of summer...Oh, how wonderful summer is, and I can not wait until summer vacation!

Home Sweet Home!

I am finally back from my trip and it is so good to be home! Its so wonderful to see all my animals! My precious kitties, Ellie, Mickey, Prince Charles, Toby:

As you may know, I went to Washington DC, New York, New Jersey, and Virginia (not to mention the ones we drove through). Both flights were awful. AWFUL! They were both late, service was horrible, and all the people who worked there, everywhere, were just mean. It made me very sad, but lets not dwell on the bad.

I had a lot of fun with my cousin from Virginia when we went into DC on our own. It was great! We went in the National Portrait Gallery and spent hours in there! It was quite beautiful. We walked around the city a lot, got lunch, and also went into China Town were I bought myself a darling little teapot, and I bought my mom an adorable box of white peony tea.

New York was of course, very cool, and very exhausting. So much walking, and lots of catching the underground trains too! It was a great experience. I walked around Times Square and Central Park of course, and I also went into Little Italy and China Town in lower Manhattan. I bought a beautiful (and cheap :D!) purple scarf that I adore and a charming little picture/drawing of a girl walking her dog in the city. I got it at a stand in Central Park.

Not to mention my visit to Leesburg, Virginia which is an old historic town with many antique stores! Of course I had to pick up treasures there! I bought a charming vintage pendant from the 30's for only $6! And also this adorable little bird cage with a little blue wooden bird in it.

I mentioned before that even though I just completed re-doing my room, I wasn't exactly thrilled with it (because of the insane amount of posters on my wall). Well, I don't know what got into me, but last night I took EVERYTHING off of the walls. And started over! :0

So now I'm in the midst of redecorating my room (again). So when I finish, I'll definitely post pictures. I am almost finished, but I'm waiting until after I come back from back from the east coast to see if I have any new treasures to add.

Wow.

Next subject. I think that today I will walk over to a used bookstore that is very close to my home. Maybe I'll find some goody to read on the plane tomorrow. Uh-oh, which I still haven't packed for! So I guess I have to do that too...

Well, I'll definitely be back later today with news about any treats I found at the used bookstore, and for a last goodbye before I'm off to my trip!

For the rest of my day, I don't have much planned. I have to go see this..er..doctor who is helping me get rid of a little bit of depression that I have. Its actually going surprisingly well.

Then I guess I will be packing for my trip that I'm leaving for on Wednesday. New York, here I come!

Wow. I hate to sound all...cheesy...but I'm excited. I'm excited to have a place to talk about myself. No really, I'm a little too excited. Well, this is my first, um, entry?, and I'm already boring myself to sleep. In other news, I am finally on spring break! Hurray! And the best part is...I'm leaving to go back east on Wednesday! I'm going to New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, and Virginia! I am in a state of beyond happiness.

In more news, I went antique shoppin' today! One of my favorite things to do of all time.
I didn't score majorly today, but I did manage to find a couple special items.
One is this charming little jar. These pictures don't do it justice, but you'll get the gist of it. And sorry about the awful lighting!

I also found this great, vintage My Little Pony. I've always had an infatuation with My Little Pony's and it was so exciting to find an old one! If anyone knows the name of this pony, please share. And again, sorry for the icky picture and icky lighting!

In more other news (I have lots of news today!), my bedroom is finally finished! Hurray hurray! The only thing I regret about it, is that this time around I was NOT planning on covering the entirety of my walls with posters. I wanted it more simple, and yet I ended up doing the same thing I did to my walls before....Why did I paint it again? Oh well, if I'm ever completely energized and can't sleep or something, than I will work on rearranging and taking down posters. My room does sort of look a little...immature?...with all the posters.
